1. This afternoon I'm going shopping with my oldest son. The two of us are going out with his best buddy who is the son of one of my best buddies (she and I have been friends since we were FOUR!). The four of us are going shopping together and it's going to be fun (right?).
This is the kind of thing my friend and I did with our moms here and there growing up, but having boys you usually don't go out on little shopping excursions with friends like this. The boys are doing something called Social, and we're going to get white pants for their Spring Formal.
I just re-read entry No. 1 and this has all the potential to be either hilariously fun or hilariously horrible. Out shopping with two 13-year-old boys for white pants? I'm laughing already.
2. For the first time in I don't know how long, I'm not wearing either a) yoga pants or b) jeans. I'm wearing a maternity jean skirt!
I had decided a few days ago that it would be yoga pants from here on out. But then the weather turned nice and I thought, let me try this skirt. It's one I bought when pregnant with Henry and this just might get me through the next four weeks!
3. As I mentioned, I had decided yoga pants would be it for me. Yesterday I took Henry to get his two-year-old portrait (it's the only formal picture I do with the boys) and decided I would be wearing the yoga pants. NO apologies. Even though the studio is in this swanky little shopping center, I decided that the photographer would rather suffer through me being in yoga pants than watching me hike up jeans that are now no longer really doing the trick. The truth is, I don't think he noticed either way, but at least I was comfortable.
4. I would like to give a MAJOR shout-out to Sarah O., you sweet, sweet girl, for telling me yesterday that my butt looked small (while I was wearing the yoga pants). You don't know how far that kind of compliment can take a person in my state. I would have tweeted that immediately ("Sarah just told me my butt looked small. I love you Sarah!") but since I gave up twitter for Lent, I will just post it here.
5. I will probably totally regret writing about No. 4 in a bit. My apologies (for when I'm feeling sheepish about that).
6. Many thanks to those of you who have ordered my book! It's already shipping from Amazon, and when I checked today mine was the #28 spot in Parenting and Families > Humor. I think this makes it a "Bestseller"! I'm sure this is a very fickle and fleeting honor, but I am excited and humbled nonetheless.
7. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring! It's also the day I gave birth to my dear, sweet Augie-boy. Augie was the baby for the longest around here -- he was halfway to six when we had Henry. Paul and I agree that Augie has sealed his spot as the "baby" of the family. He's not the youngest, but he's certainly claimed a certain status because he went so many years in that position. Just an interesting little dynamic of family life...

Rachel, I received my copy of your book 2 days ago and am halfway through already. I am enjoying it so much! My only regret is that I'll be done reading it too soon.
{#4}We all need a best friend when we're like, what, 18 months pregnant!
That is so cool about your book. I'm not surprised at all that it's selling well. I was at a playdate this morning and the other mom mentioned that she's excited to get a copy of your book -- and she doesn't even have boys! It's definitely getting great buzz. Congratulations!!
Don't feel sheepish about #4. That kind of compliment would make my day, too, and I'm not even pregnant!
I've got your book on my wish-list for whenever someone next asks, "what do you want for....?" Can't wait to read it!
our kiddo is in desperate need of two year photos - can you recommend a good place? :)
I'm glad to hear about your "baby." We're expecting #6, but #5 will be three by the time she (or he) is born, which is over twice as old as the other girls were before becoming big sisters. It's hard not to think of her as "the baby," because she actually managed to hold on to the title through her entire babyhood. :)
The only thing that would make #1 better is if it were called "Cotillion."
I hope we live somewhere that allows me to dress my boys in white pants for spring evenings of dancing and clever conversation when they are "of age."
Also, I preordered your book, but forgot that we'd switched banks and cancelled the old debit card, so I received about seven notices from Amazon that I thought were spam until I read more closely. Fear not, though, for I shall place my order again AND tell my library to order a copy. A-ha!
I just found your blog through Kerri (Hi Kerri!) and promptly added you to my feed reader. I've got 3 boys 5 and under and am kind of that place of going "Oh dear, now what?!" I've also added your book to my wishlist. Mother's Day, perhaps?
This has nothing to do about your quick takes, but I noticed the ad on the sidebar was for NuvaRing birth control . . . I thought you might like to know.
Hey Rachel! About #1: we rented our white pants last year, $25, since we knew we would have no need whatsoever for white pants ever again. Also, Social does have a sale of used pants/blazers. You might want to check w/them to see when it is. See you all at the spring formal! My one and only gets to wear a tux this year. I am so excited. :0)
I was laughing about #1, since I just read the list in your book about worst shopping tortures....!!
I just got your book in the mail!! Yay! I can't wait to start reading it. The shopping trip sounds very fun!
Rachel - just got your book in the mail today. I'm so looking forward to reading it!!! Gaby
